Never say never. I grew up around sewing, and although I had all of the necessary skills to sew for my baby, I had absolutely, positively no desire to make anything for her but a quilt. And then life stepped in, and as they say, necessity is the mother of invention. If you could think of all of the factors that could possibly complicate cloth diapering--we managed to check off nearly every item on the list (just for starters: hyper-sensitive skin, a bad HE front-loading washer, a very heavy wetting baby, PUL/TPU sensitivity, and a hard-to-fit baby shape). My daughter had a diaper rash that just would not quit.
But I did not want to give up on cloth diapering. I guess you could say I've made "Never, ever, ever give up." something of a life mantra. Perhaps when I was a kid my parents left me sitting in front of that picture too long--you remember that one, right? The picture of the frog trying to escape from the crane's throat?
I spent the next few months troubleshooting, researching and testing the products that would become the foundation for Sweet Iris, most notably patent-pending Snug Bug diaper flats, which were a game-changer for our family, just as they have been for many other families since the shop opened in 2013. Back then I started the process that I've continued to this day--searching for new sources of the very best fabrics on earth, and then testing out new designs to put them to use. I'm constantly coming up with new design ideas--I just need a chance to implement them! Sweet Iris is a teeny tiny shop, and that is intentional. Nothing makes it on Sweet Iris' short list unless it is truly an exceptional product. After purchasing a particular product, I frequently get an email from clients saying "Wow!!! That is an amazing product!" And it is! I only pick the awesome stuff!
If you've ever wondered what the Sweet Iris logo is all about, that is a quilt block called the Reel block, which is our family name. I love quilting, so I consider it a bit of a family crest.
Sweet Iris is located in beautiful Wake Forest, North Carolina.
